UCR Mail Services

Lowering Costs & Understanding Rates

In February 2009, Mail Services implemented a new approach to the monthly Drop/Stop charge. Instead of a flat rate, a new seven tiered, weight-based delivery pricing model went into effect. This new tier approach applied to monthly Drop charges was reviewed and approved by both the Committee on Sales & Service Activities (COSSA) and Audit and Advisory Services.

The Monthly Drop/Stop Rate is determined as follows:

What can you do to reduce your Mail volumes and thereby reduce your costs?

 You can go to https://www.dmachoice.org

You can go to https://www.privacyrights.org  and ask to be removed from mailers who belong to the “Direct Marketing Association” which represents about 75% of all mailers.

  •  If a Faculty or Staff member is no longer with UCR, you can contact the mailer and ask they be removed from their list.
  • Don’t freely give your address or e-mail to vendors who may add you to a mailing list.
  • Finally, Mail Services welcomes your suggestions for further solutions - all ideas and efforts to reduce volumes are gladly accepted and please don't forget to help our campus' Sustainability efforts by recycling unwanted mail.
